Instructions

    • 1

Use a portable metal wash tub, like the kind that are used to do laundry by hand. This is important, as the dye will likely stain the tub in your bathroom.

    • 2

Find old rugs that you don't want anymore or plastic bags and put them on the floor around the tub, so that it will be protected -- in case there are spills from the tub.

    • 3

Fill the tub with warm water. Make sure that there is enough water in the tub to allow the fabric move freely.

    • 4

Wear a pair of plastic or rubber gloves to protect your hands from the dye. Your hands may get stained, if you do not wear a pair of gloves.

    • 5

Put the fabric in the tub, and mix the dye with the water. Follow the mixing instruction on the dye package. Stir the water, to make sure that the the dye mixes perfectly. Let the fabric sit in the tub for at least 30 minutes.

    • 6

Take the fabric out from the tub after the 30 minutes is up. Rinse it well with warm water. Rinse it over and over -- until the water is clear. You can use cold water for the last few rinses.

    • 7

Hang the fabric in a shady, well-ventilated area and let it dry. Wash the tub with a bleach to remove the stains on the surface.
