Wait for your customers to come in from the Google search engine.

If your business caters to a local market, you want your website viewers to also be local. When potential customers in your area search online for your type of business, you want your website to be one of those listed on the first page. To get a first page Google local listing you need to optimize your website for local keywords in your industry but also need to add the website to special directories and listings to get it to rank highly for your business name in your city or area.

Instructions

  1. Keyword Optimization

    • 1

Analyze the keywords you should include in your website title and the content of your website. Navigate to Google Adwords keyword tool.

    • 2

Type in the keywords people might choose to look for you locally in the search box. For instance, if you were an electrician in Los Angeles, you might type "electrician, Los Angeles."

    • 3

Analyze the keywords to find a few that are searched for but are not highly competed for. These are listed under the "Searched" and "Competition" categories. Write 5 to 10 of these words down.

    • 4

Navigate to your website design program and open your Website Index page. Click the "HTML" tab to view the page code.

    • 5

Look through the code at the top of the page to find the title tags:"<title>Title of the document</title>."

    • 6

Remove any text between the tags and insert the name of your business followed by a comma. Add 2 to 3 of these keywords separated by commas to the title too. Save the Web page and do the same with any other page on the Website. This will help your Website list on a search engine first page for these keywords.

    Directory Listings

    • 7

Sign up with YP, Internet yellow pages, or Localeze and list your website, address and business phone numbers. Some of these Websites have free basic listings or trial periods, with better listing services requiring a yearly fee.

    • 8

Submit your local business Website with Yahoo and Google. Although this is not required to get your Website to list locally it does help. Both are free submission processes.

    • 9

Sign up with Websites that carry local business listings. These are privately owned websites that constantly work at keeping their Website on a first page Google listing. They list their subscriber's addresses, Logos, phone numbers and websites. Most Websites of this type charge some type of fee for the service, but when a reader finds their Website, they can find you on their listings page.
