How to Unlock the Mousepad on an Acer Laptop
A laptop's touchpad, sometimes referred to as a mousepad, is configurable through the mouse options in Windows. Included in these options is an ability to lock or unlock the touchpad. Use this option if you prefer a regular mouse or if you don't like the touchpad. Unlock your Acer touchpad with or without a mouse through the mouse properties window.

With a Mouse

Click the up-arrow located near your system clock on the right side of your task bar to expand a list of running programs.

Locate the Acer touchpad icon. A disabled touchpad icon is a square icon with a red circle-backslash symbol.

Right-click the icon and click "Property of Smartpad." This opens a new window on the screen.

Click the "ELAN" tab then the "Enable Device" button. The device is now unlocked.
Without a Mouse

Press the "Windows" keyboard button located between the "Alt" and "Fn" keys on your Acer keyboard. This displays the Windows Start menu.

Type "Mouse" in the "Start Search" field and press your "Enter" key. This opens a "Mouse Properties" window on the screen.

Hold down the "Shift" key and press the "Tab" key once. This highlights the "Buttons" tab at the top.

Use the "Right-arrow" key on your keyboard to go to the "ELAN" tab.

Press your "Tab" key three times to highlight the "Enable Device" button, and press "Enter." The touchpad is now unlocked.
