How to Crochet a Ripple Dog Coat

Start with one of the colors and chain 48. Single crochet in second chain from the hook. Single crochet in next stitch then do three single crochets in next stitch and single crochet in each of next two stitches. Skip two stitches then single crochet in each of next two stitches and do three single crochets in next stitch. Single crochet in each of next two stitches and repeat to end and turn.

For row two work in the back loops. Decrease one stitch and single crochet in next stitch. Do three single crochets in next stitch then single crochet in next two stitches and skip two stitches and single crochet in next two stitches. Repeat to end then change yarn color and turn.
For rows three through eight, repeat row two doing two rows in each color. Be sure to do an increase stitch in the first row of each fourth stripe to create points. Do three single crochets in each point and follow with a two single crochets in next stitch.

For row nine, work row two and increase over first four points then chain 15 and skip next four points. Work an increase across next seven points then chain 15 and skip four points. Work the increase over the last four points.
For rows 10 through 13, work row two even across all stitches and chains.
Leg Openings

With the first color work across first point then chain one and turn. For row 14, work even and decrease first stitch at the beginning and end of row. Cut the yarn for the side section and turn. Skip next 11 stitches of the last long row for leg opening and attach yarn in next single crochet. Single in the same space and single crochet in each of next two stitches. Do three single crochets in next stitch then single crochet in next three stitches and skip two stitches and single crochet in next three stitches. Repeat once more then do three single crochets in next stitch and single crochet in next three stitches. Chain one and turn.

For row 15, work in pattern and decrease a stitch at the beginning and end of row for the back section. Cut the yarn and turn. Skip the next 11 stitches of the last long row and attach yarn in next single crochet. Work this side to correspond to the other side then cut yarn and turn.
For row 16, attach second color yarn in first single crochet and working across all sections decrease first stitch of first section then work across first section ending with a single crochet in each of last four stitches. Chain seven then single crochet in first stitch of back section and single crochet in next three stitches. Continue the pattern across back section ending with a single crochet in each of last four stitches. Chain seven and single crochet in first stitch of the other side section. Single crochet in next three stitches then do three single crochets in next stitch and continue pattern across section and decrease last two stitches. Chain one then join and turn.

For row 27, work in pattern and color scheme but do not join. Chain one and turn. Work rows 28 through 32 in the same way.
For row 33, work decrease in first four stitches. Work the pattern across then chain one and turn.

For row 34, work decrease in first four stitches then single crochet in next three stitches and skip two stitches. Single crochet in next three stitches then do three single crochets in next stitch and continue across row. Chain one and turn.
For row 35, work decrease in first two stitches and single crochet in next two stitches. Skip the next two stitches and single crochet in next three stitches. Continue the pattern across the row then chain one and turn.

For row 37, work decrease in the first four stitches then single crochet in next stitch and do three single crochets in next stitch. Continue the pattern across the row and cut yarn. Work on wrong side and attach a different color at the separation. Slip stitch in each row and work pattern across. Slip stitch in each row on the opposite side then join and cut yarn.

Work the leg section with the right side of work and center seam toward you and the neck edge at the top. Attach the first yarn color in the first row of the second color of the leg opening to the right of the seam. Do two single crochets in the same space then two single crochet in the next first color row and skip next two stitches. Single crochet in next three stitches then skip two stitches and do three single crochets over the side of first color row. Do three single crochets in second color row which is increasing point and single crochet in second color row. Make pompons for the sweater in each color. Wind the yarn fifty times over a three quarter inch piece of cardboard. Tie one end and cut the other end. Trim into shape. Tie together and fasten to the front collar.
