Instructions

    • 1

Lay the T-shirt in front of you with the back facing up. Draw a curved line with the chalk, starting at the shoulder seam, three inches from the sleeve, going under the collar, and ending at the other shoulder seam, three inches from the other sleeve.

    • 2

Cut along the line through both layers of the T-shirt with the scissors.

    • 3

Measure with the ruler to find the center of the bottom of the shirt. Mark the center with the chalk. Draw a line with the ruler from the center point you marked to the shoulder seam 3 inches from the sleeve. Draw a second line to the other shoulder.

    • 4

Cut out the back of the T-shirt along the two lines.

    • 5

Cut two strips 1-inch wide and about 18 inches in length from the back piece you just cut out. Pull the strips to stretch them.

    • 6

Sew the strips to the cut edge of the back of the shirt two inches below the shoulder seams, with the needle and thread.

    • 7

Put on the shirt. Tie the ends of the two strips together across the back. Pull the bottom of the shirt snug against your waist. Tie the open ends of the bottom back together.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a finished-looking garment, fold the raw edges in by 1/4-inch sew them with a stretch stitch on a sewing machine. You can use ribbons or lace instead of the strips for the back tie.
