How to Make a CBR File on Windows 7

Digital comic book readers normally handle comic archives in either .cbr or .cbz format. A .cbz archive is a renamed .zip file, and a .cbr is a renamed .rar archive. If you have created your own comic book and would like to distribute it online, you can make it into a .cbr before uploading it to the Internet.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install WinRAR from win-rar.com. Many compression utilities can extract .rar. files; however, the format is proprietary, so only licensed programs can create .rar archives. A free trial of the program is available for Windows 7.

Put each individual comic page into a folder on your computer. Rename the files in sequential order.

    • 3

Open WinRAR. Navigate through the directories on your computer as they are displayed in WinRAR until you get to the folder containing your comic book. Click on the folder to highlight it.

    • 4

      Click "Add."

    • 5

Enter a name for the .rar archive. Click "OK." The program will create a .rar file. Close WinRAR.

    • 6

Right-click on the newly created .rar archive and select "Rename." Change the file extension from ".rar" to ".cbr" and press "Enter."
