How to Make My Tumblr Pretty
You don't have to live with Tumblr's default navy-and-white design on your blog (although there's no way to change it on the Dashboard). Thousands of themes, color schemes, fonts and extra goodies are available to make your tumblelog as unique and fun as you are.

1
Choose a new theme for your blog. "Theme" refers to a set of coding that defines a customized set of colors, fonts and display sizes for the different types of content on your Tumblr blog. Find many different themes in the Tumblr Theme Garden directory, http://www.tumblr.com/themes/. Most are free, but a few designers charge for use of their "premium themes."

2
Browse the Theme Garden and click "Preview" on any theme to see how your blog would look with that theme; if you like it, click "Install." You can change themes as often as you like.

3
Define custom colors, fonts and other elements for your blog. From the Dashboard, click "Customize," then the "Appearance" tab. If the theme has customization enabled, you can change the color of your background, text and links, as well as choose whether to display certain widgets, such as a link to your Twitter profile or a list of which Tumblr users you follow. Click "Save" to preview your changes, or "Save + Close" to save them and return to the Dashboard.

4
Add widgets from other sites to your blog. A widget is a small box or graphic that displays your activity on other social media sites; for example, Twitter offers widgets that show your most recent updates. Many widgets can be customized to match the look of your blog, and you can copy and paste the HTML code that creates a widget right into the "Description" section of the "Info" tab on Tumblr's "Customize" page.
