How to Get My TCEQ License

The Texas agency with lead responsibility for protection of the state's environment is the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Approximately 3,000 people form the TCEQ workforce, the primary goal of which is clean water, clean air and safe management of waste. The TCEQ is the state's licensing authority for 13 occupations that are critical to the agency's success. Materials required for the application process and resources to guide applicants through the procedure are provided on the TCEQ website.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the TCEQ website at tceq.state.tx.us. Click on "Licensing" in the menu on the left side of the page. Click on "Occupational License Information and Requirements" on the resulting page. Follow the link to the occupation for which you seek a license.

    • 2

Review carefully the licensing requirements for your chosen occupation to ensure that your education, training and experience qualify you for a license.

    • 3

Obtain an application for a license from the source specified on the web page that focuses on licensing for your chosen occupation.

    • 4

Complete and submit the application along with other required documentation and the application fee --- which as of June 2011 was $111 --- by check or money order. Supporting documentation might include proof of completion of training and/or college transcripts.

Tips & Warnings

  • The application fee for a license renewal as of June 2011 was the same as that for an initial license: $111.

  • If you are currently licensed in another state, you may qualify for an exemption of some or all new licensing requirements. Each request for a license of reciprocity is evaluated individually.
