How to Call a Second Life Avatar with Your Cell Phone

People in the real world who want to call friends, family members or business colleagues in Second Life (SL) can do so via Linden's AvaLine: Dial an Avatar service. With this service, the real-world caller simply dials an AvaLine local access phone number and enters the Second Life Resident's extension, called a connection code, to reach that person. As long as the person is available to speak, and willing to accept the call, you can speak with one another as you would on a normal cell phone call.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the AvaLine section of the Second Life Knowledge Base and retrieve an AvaLine access number local to your country or city.

    • 2

Dial the number using your cell phone. Make certain that you dial the complete number including any country codes and prefixes. The system will say, "Welcome to Second Life. Please enter your connection code and press pound."

    • 3

Enter the connection code given to you by your friend, family member or business colleague, press the pound key (#) and wait for someone to pick up the call. If the Second Life Resident doesn't pick up and has voice mail, leave a message.

Tips & Warnings

  • AvaLine also offers users phone prompts in other languages. If you're explaining this process to someone who doesn't speak English, advise him to wait for the AvaLine system welcome message to change to the language needed and then press the number key for the correct language when prompted.
