How to Use a Compass to Point Your Dish Network
Customarily, your Dish Network satellite antenna is installed and pointed in the proper direction by a trained technician. However, If you are self-installing your dish, you may need to point the dish manually with the use of a compass. The use of a built-in angle measurement scale on the body of the satellite dish is useful to set the azimuth (left/right) pointing direction of your dish for those models that have that feature. But if your dish does not have this scale, you can use a compass to point the dish in the correct direction for satellite service.
Instructions
-
-
1
Press the "Program" button on the Dish Network satellite receiver remote to open the Settings menu on your television.
-
2
Use the "Up/Down" arrow buttons on the receiver remote control to scroll to the "Satellite Setup" option.

-
3
Press the "Enter" button. This screen will provide you with the "Azimuth" degree position for your satellite that you will need to aim your compass. Write that number down.
-
4
Stand close to the dish antenna location (but as far as you can from any metal objects) and hold the compass flat in your hand. The arrow on the compass will point to the north.
-
5
Rotate the compass slowly until the arrow is directly over the "0" mark on the compass scale.
-
6
Point the front of your dish toward the degree number on the compass that matches the azimuth number that you got from the "Satellite Setup" screen.
