How Do I Bid for Sheetrock?
When companies or government agencies such as counties and cities need Sheetrock or other materials and services, they write and release contracting opportunities known as requests for bids or requests for proposals. Annually the U.S. government awards over one billion dollars in contracts. In order to start bidding on these business opportunities, contact the purchasing departments of local businesses and government agencies. These departments handle contracting and can tell you where their agency or company posts its bid opportunities. Usually you can find them on the agency's or company's website, but sometimes you will have to receive them by mail or email. Once you receive the documents or find the information, you can begin the actual bidding process.

1
Read over the contract documents. These will give you details on what is required for bidding such as the kind of Sheetrock being requested, whether the agency or company wants it delivered and installed and the quantity of material required.
-
2
Subcontract. As a Sheetrock provider you have the opportunity to expand your bidding opportunities by working as a subcontractor for contracting companies. You alone would not qualify to bid on remodeling and new construction projects. You can team up with a contracting or construction management company and gain more business this way.

3
Check with the agency or company everyday to make sure they have not issued any addenda to the bid. Addenda are legal documents that can change items in the bid like the quantity of Sheetrock needed and the due date.
-
4
Write your bid. Every bid you write will be different because each bid opportunity will give specific instruction regarding what needs to be included in your bid. Some agencies and companies specify everything down to the color of the ink you must use when signing your name and dating your bid.
-
5
Turn in your bid on time. Every bid has a set date and time that submission is due. After this time the agency or company will not accept your bid. The easiest way to waste time and money bidding contracts is to turn in late bids because not only does it disqualify you from bidding, but all the time and effort you spent putting your bid together will be wasted.

Tips & Warnings
If your company just provides the Sheetrock material, consider teaming up with an installer. This will qualify you to bid on more contracting opportunities.
