How to Create IMVU Hair Textures
IMVU is commonly known for Instant Messaging Virtual Universe in Internet slang, but some people refer to it as Im-Voo. IMVU is a virtual world where users create avatars and interact with people all around the globe. The virtual universe is it's own society. It has its own rules, geographical boundaries and currency. Users can do everything from buying music to marrying another character. The universe offers an enhanced-chatting platform, and users put plenty of time into perfecting their avatars before throwing them into the virtual world. IMVU allows you to choose certain hair styles for your avatar, but if you want a different hair texture (color, curls, frizz), you'll have to create the texture in a photo editor and upload it to IMVU.
Instructions

-
1
Launch your photo-editing software. A widely-used program among IMVU users is GIMP. GIMP is free, easy to use, and advanced enough to create avatar features. Any advanced photo-editing software, like Adobe Photoshop, will also work.
-
2
Start a "New" template and set the canvas size to a perfect square. Make it any size you like. Set your canvas size between 100x100 and 300x300.
-
-
3
Click the bucket tool and select the color you want to use. To create hair, you'll have to use three shades of a certain color.
-
4
Click the background of your canvas to fill it with your color.
-
5
Open the "Filter" tab, scroll down to "Noise" and double-click "Add Noise."
-
6
Slide the filter percentage to 15 percent. Check that the "Gaussian" and "Monochromatic" boxes don't have check marks in them.
-
7
Open the "Filter" tab again, highlight "Blur" and double-click "Motion Blur."
-
8
Set the "Angle" to 90 degrees and set the "Distance" to 700 pixels.
-
9
Click on the "Filter" tab, highlight "Blur" and select "Gaussian Blur."
-
10
Slide the "Radius" size to somewhere between 0.1 and 1.0 and then click "OK."
-
11
Click on the "Layer" tab at the top of the screen and select "New Layer."
-
12
Click on the paintbrush tool from the toolbar and set the size to 35 pixels. Set the brush "Hardness" to 10%.
-
13
Choose a lighter shade of your base color and paint a stripe across the square. This stripe should be about a third of the way down from the top.
-
14
Set your brush to a larger size and paint another strip across your square. Paint this strip about a third of the way up from the bottom of the square, and use the lightest of your three shades. White will also work well.
-
15
Click on the blending options menu . This drop-down menu is on the right side of your screen, above your layers. Change the blending mode to "Overlay."
-
16
Slide the "Opacity" level to a level you like. The "Opacity" bar is next to the blending drop-down menu.
-
17
Click on "File" and save your texture in the jpg format. Upload your texture to use in IMVU and other social networking sites.

Tips & Warnings
Almost all advanced photo-editing programs offer the same editing tools and effects, so you can create hair for your avatar in several different photo editors. The terms and exact method of applying effects may slightly differ from software to software.
Creating hair for your avatar is an art. The exact numbers you choose to use are up to you, but these numbers usually work well. Don't be afraid to experiment with the editing levels to find something you really like.
