Open Facebook in a browser of your choice.

Enter your email address and password in the text fields provided and click "Log In."

Locate the "Chat" bar on the bottom right corner of your screen and click on it. A pop-up appears with a list of friends who are online.

Click on one of your online friend's name to open a chat dialog box.
