How to Do an Offline Installation for JDK 1.6

The Java Developer's Kit (JDK) 1.6 -- officially named JDK 6.0 -- is a complete Java package that allows you to both create and run Java applets on your computer. The JDK installer comes in two variations: an online and an offline installer. The online installer requires that you stay connected to the Internet, and will download any specific files needed for your computer. The offline installer, however, includes all the install files, rather than just those needed by your computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your preferred Web browser and navigate to the JDK download page.

    • 2

Click the "Accept" radio button, then click the download link for your specific operating system.

    • 3

Save the file to your hard drive, then launch the installer once it has finished downloading.

    • 4

Click through the installer menus until the automatic installation starts. You may have to restart your computer once the installation has finished.
