How to Make a Leprechaun Hat
Leprechauns are mythological fairies in Irish folklore, reputed to be mischievous creatures with magical powers, and are often represented as little men in green coats and red beards. Typically, they wear green top hats with a buckle and matching shoes. They are associated with a wide range of mythic or folkloric elements, such as shamrocks, or a rainbow and a pot of gold. Making a leprechaun hat would be a fun project for kids or adults alike.

1
Take a sheet of green construction paper and fold it around your head. This will measure the size of the hat you need. Mark with a pencil and cut at the mark. Fold the paper into a cylinder and glue the ends together. Let the paper dry.

2
Use the ruler to trace and measure a strip of black construction paper. This will become the buckle holder. This strip should be the same the length as the cylinder. Cut out a small outline of a square with the yellow construction paper. This will be the buckle. Glue this to the black strip. Fold the glue around the bottom of the cylinder after both have dried.

Measure another sheet of green construction paper, which will be the top of the hat. This sheet should be the same size as the cylinder. Cut out a circle shape and glue to the top of the cylinder. Cut a larger circle of green paper, about three inches larger than the cylinder. Use this for the hat brim.

Cut small diamond pieces of any colored paper, you will use these to attach the hat to the brim from the inside. Tip the cylinder upside down, and place the brim on top. Take a diamond piece of paper and glue one half to the brim and one half to the inside of the cylinder top. Do this about four times to secure the brim to the hat. Let dry for about 10 minutes before attempting to wear.
