How to Make a Yarn Book Doll

Wrap a book with yarn to make a yarn book doll.

Create a yarn doll using a book. The book keeps the yarn in place as you wrap enough yarn around it to create the body of the doll. Use any color yarn to make a boy or girl doll for a child. Add a few pieces of yarn for the hair to complete the look. The yarn dolls are soft and cuddly, which makes them safe for babies. However, the yarn dolls can be given to children of any age. Older children may even want to get in on the fun of making a yarn doll.

Things You'll Need

• Yarn, one color for the body and one for the hair
• Book
• Tape
• Scissors
• Buttons
• Clear craft glue

Instructions

1. Tape the end of the yarn to the book. Position the yarn at the bottom corner of the book.

2. Wrap the yarn around the book. Wrap it horizontally or vertically until the book is covered. Continue wrapping until the doll has reached the desired thickness. The more layers of yarn, the softer the doll will be.

3. Slide a 10-inch piece of yarn across the top of the book and underneath the layers of yarn. Gently pull the yarn off of the book.

4. Make the doll's head. Cut a 3-inch piece of yarn. Grab the yarn from the book 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the top. Tie the 3-inch piece of yarn at this mark. Trim any excess yarn from the 3-inch piece.

5. Make the arms and waist. Separate some of the loops of the yarn to either side of the doll. Cut three 3-inch pieces of yarn. Tie around the dolls waist and wrist and trim any excess. Cut the loops.

6. Make the legs. Separate the bottom loops into two legs. Cut two 3-inch strips and tie around the ankles. Cut the loops. Leave the bottom free for a girl yarn doll.

7. Glue buttons to the face for eyes. Cut strips of yarn and glue them to the top of the doll's head for hair.
