How to Use a UPS Shipping Machine

Schedule a UPS pick-up by using your UPS shipping account.

The UPS shipping machine is a thermal printer used to print shipping labels. Before using the machine, a business must have an open UPS shipping account. The machine works in conjunction with the UPS website to process a shipment for pick-up at your location and to deliver the goods to the stated destination. Using the shipping machine is as simple a changing a few settings when you create a shipment through the UPS website.

Instructions

1. Connect and install the UPS thermal printer. The process will depend on which thermal printer you have. Refer to the UPS thermal printer documentation and installation CD that came with the printer. If the documentation or CD is not available, visit the UPS website Technical Help section; you will find documentation and installation downloads.

2. Open your UPS shipping account using your log-in ID and password. Click on the "shipping" tab and select "set preferences" from the drop-down menu. Change the setting to "Use my UPS thermal printer to print labels." Uncheck the box to print to your default printer.

3. Create a shipping label. Click on the "shipping" tab and select "create shipment" from the drop-down menu. Fill in the required fields for shipping destination, weight, and return address. At the end you will complete the shipping process by selecting the label to print; you can also print a shipping receipt and return address label at this time.

4. If a need arises to reprint labels or receipts, these can be achieved in the shipping history. Click on the "shipping" tab and select "create shipment." Select "shipping history," then select the shipment you wish to reprint. Choose "Use my UPS Thermal Printer to Print Label." Select "View/Print Label."
