How to Find People Who Have Windows Live Messenger
Microsoft's Windows Live Messenger allows you to add people by their email addresses, if you know them. If you just know someone's name or phone number and want to find their Windows Live Messenger address, you can use the people search feature. This feature allows you to find people by their first or last names, phone numbers and other personal information. You can only search for people with this information if they're exposing it in their public Windows Live profiles.

Click the "Add" menu at the upper-right corner of the Windows Live Messenger window and click "Search for Someone."

Type a first and last name, email address or phone number into the search box on the page that appears and press "Enter."

Browse the list of people with Windows Live Messenger profiles that appears. You can click a person's name and click "Add as a Friend" to add them to your friend list.

Tips & Warnings
Click the "Advanced People Search" link on the search page if you need to narrow down the results further. This page lets you specify a person's gender, interests, company, profession and educational institution. You can only search for someone using these criteria if they've entered this information in their public profile.
You can also open the "Home.live.com/search" page directly to search for people without opening Windows Live Messenger.
