Syrup has been a sweetener in North American cuisine for hundreds of years. From molasses to maple syrup, the natural thick concoctions are boiled down from a runny liquid in to a thick substance. However, to do this, the syrup must be simmered for a long amount of time in a pot with a wide and large surface area for maximum evaporation. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Large deep saucepan
  • Large metal rectangular pan

Instructions

      Place the pan on two burners on the stove.

      Fill the pan to 2-inches deep. Turn both burners to medium heat, enough to bring the syrup to a simmer.

      Continuously stir the pan to create a genuine syrup simmering pan.

      Simmer the syrup in the pan for several hours, or until it is at the constancy you desire, while stirring constantly.

      Pour the syrup out of the pan. Designate the pan for syrup primarily, as it will have crystallized syrup around the sides and shoud not be contaminated with any other flavours.

Tips & Warnings

  • An ordinary metal pan can easily become a syrup pan.
