How to Check Sound Cards
Sound cards are required hardware for laptop and desktop computers to execute sound in programs and websites. Microsoft Windows includes a built-in sound utility that is capable of testing the sound card output. This utility allows users to troubleshoot problems and ensure the sound card is performing optimally.

Click "Start" and then click "Control Panel."

Type "sound" from the search box in the upper-right corner of the Control Panel window.

Click the "Sound" link from the list of results in the Control Panel.

Click the "Playback" tab from the Sound window.

Select the speakers you are using and then click the "Configure" button.

Select the speaker configuration you wish to test from the list of configurations under "Audio channels."

Click the "Test" button. A tone is played through each speaker.
