How to Tie Swivels
Barrel swivels are an instrumental part of a live-bait rig, which many anglers use when targeting walleyes. The body of these pieces of terminal fishing tackle rotates and has a hole at each end. Swivels reduce the likelihood of twisted line and separate the sinker and the hook. When fishermen use barrel swivels, they must tie each end of them to the fishing line. Using an appropriate knot is essential when using a swivel in your rig.

1
Cut a 3- to 4-foot section of fishing line, which is the leader. The leader should be the same test strength as the main fishing line.
-
2
Thread a walking sinker onto the end of the main line. The sinker should be sufficiently heavy to stay in contact with the bottom.

3
Attach the main fishing line to one end of the swivel with a Palomar knot. Use the same knot to tie the leader to the other end of the swivel.
-
4
Attach a hook to the free end of the leader.
