How to Draw a Room's Wall Plan for Wallpaper
Adding wallpaper can be a good way to change the look of a room. Unlike paint, calculating how much wallpaper you need can be accomplished by creating a drawing of each wall in the room. Wallpaper comes in varying lengths and widths, which impacts how much you need. Many wallpaper patterns need to be matched from roll to roll, increasing the need for extra wallpaper. Draw each wall on a separate sheet of paper. Create a square or rectangle and draw any doors, windows or built-in cabinets or fireplaces on the wall.
-
2
Measure the length and width of the room and write the dimensions down on the sheet of paper, using feet and inches.
-
-
3
Use the tape measure to find the size of the doors, fireplaces or windows in the room. Note the dimensions on the paper.
-
4
Calculate the square footage of the wall by multiplying the width times the height. Multiply the square footage of the doors, windows, cabinets or fireplaces using the same process. Subtract the product of the areas you will not wallpaper from the total square footage for the entire wall. Repeat the process for the other walls in the room and add each wall's total square footage together to reach a total.

Bring the drawings of your room with you when you obtain the wallpaper. These drawings provide useful information for you and the staff members who help you choose the kind of wallpaper to use and how much you need, based on the length and width of the rolls.
