How to Stop a Squeak From Fake Leather

How to Stop a Squeak From Fake Leather thumbnail
You don't have to live with squeaks from fake leather shoes or garments.

While some people look down on wearing fake leather as a cheap alternative lacking the luxuriousness and superior appearance of real leather, it does have advantages. Faux leather, being a synthetic product, protects animals from being used in shoes or garments. Faux-leather products typically come in a wider variety of colors as well. However, like just real leather, faux leather sometimes squeaks when worn.

Instructions

    • 1

Dab a nickel-sized amount of mink oil onto a lint-free cloth. Rub the oil all over the synthetic leather. Conditioning will remove the typical sticky feeling of faux leather products, which can exacerbate squeaky sounds.

    • 2

Allow the items to sit or hang in fresh air away from direct sunlight for at least 12 hours. This will allow the oil to absorb into the product.

    • 3

Purchase a foam shoeshine-polish sponge in a color that matches your fake leather. Run the sponge over the entire surface area of the item, even if it's not a pair of shoes. This will further buff the material, removing any unabsorbed mink oil and stickiness. Your faux-leather item should now be squeak free.
