How to Make a Cute Baby Mobil

You can make your own special mobile for your baby.

Baby mobiles hung over a crib, a car seat or a changing table are an excellent way to capture your child's attention for the purpose of either stimulating him or lulling him to sleep. However, a mobile can cost anywhere from $30 to over $100, and depending on the type of theme you have chosen for your child's room, it can be difficult to find a matching mobile. Luckily, with a quick trip to your local craft or hobby store, you can make your own customized baby mobile.

Things You'll Need

  • Ribbon
  • String

Instructions

    • 1

Start by choosing a theme for your mobile. The theme will likely match your baby's room, so if the theme of the room is race cars, you can focus your mobile on this theme as well.

    • 2

Use your hot glue gun to glue one end of the ribbon to the embroidery hoop. Wrap the ribbon around the hoop until the hoop can no longer be seen. For added effect, choose a ribbon with a pattern that matches your theme. For instance, a black and white checkered pattern for your ribbon would match a race car theme nicely.

    • 3

Cut lengths of string in varying lengths, one for each cut-out or figurine you will be hanging.

    • 4

Tie one end of the string to the cut-outs or figurines.

    • 5

Tie the other end of the string to the ribbon-wrapped embroidery hoop. The strings attached to your cut-outs or figurines should be evenly spaced around the perimeter of the embroidery hoop.

    • 6

Cut two lengths of string that are twice the diameter of your embroidery hoop.

    • 7

Tie the ends of one of the strings on opposite sides of the embroidery hoop.

    • 8

Loop the other string through the first string, bring the two ends together, and tie a knot. This loop can be used to hang the mobile from the ceiling. Make sure you hang the mobile high enough so that it is out of the baby's reach.

Tips & Warnings

  • Cut outs or figurines for your mobile can easily be found at your local craft and hobby store.
