How to Crochet Bun Covers
Crocheted bun covers add decoration to your hair while keeping your bun in place. These delicate and somewhat lacy accessories are also sometimes called "snoods." You can make your own bun cover using a few basic crochet stitches. An elastic hairband is included in this pattern to make sure that the cover stays snugly in place. This project does not require a large amount of yarn, so you can make multiple covers from the same skein.
Things You'll Need

Crochet Stitches Used

1
Begin the chain stitch by making a slipknot in the yarn and placing it on the crochet hook. Catch the yarn and pull it through the knot's loop, dropping the loop from the hook. A new loop should remain. This is the first stitch. Make the second and subsequent stitches by catching the yarn, drawing it through the loop on the hook and dropping the loop to create a new loop.
-
2
Make the slip stitch by inserting the hook into a previously created stitch. Catch the yarn, pull it through the stitch and draw it through the loop that should already be on your hook. Drop the loop from the hook. A new loop should remain.

3
Make the half-double crochet stitch by wrapping the yarn from front to back around your hook's tip. There should already be one loop on the hook. Insert the hook into a previously worked stitch, catch the yarn, pull it through the stitch and draw a third loop onto the hook. Catch the yarn again and pull it through the three loops, dropping them in the process. One new loop should remain.

Make six chain stitches with the yarn and crochet hook. Make a slip stitch into the first chain stitch to join the stitches into a round.
-
5
Make two half-double crochet stitches into each of the six stitches in the round.
-
6
Make three chain stitches at the beginning of the round, then make a half-double crochet stitch into the first stitch of the previous round. Continue this pattern to complete the round.
-
7
Make three chain stitches to begin the next round, then make a half-double crochet stitch into the space created by the first three chain stitches in the previous round. Repeat this pattern to complete the round. Then repeat the pattern to complete three more rounds.
-
8
Hold the elastic hair band close to the rim of the project. Make three chain stitches. Insert the hook into the space created by the first three chain stitches in the previous round. Make sure that the hair band is held over the area. Make a half-double crochet stitch into the space, going over the hair band to secure it in place. Repeat this pattern 12 more times.

9
Cut the yarn, draw it through the last loop and use the tapestry needle to weave in the loose ends.
