How to Text Someone From Facebook

How to Text Someone From Facebook thumbnail
Facebook does not charge to send out a text, but your mobile provider may charge you when you receive one.

When you want to make sure your friend receives your private Facebook message, send a duplicate copy as a text message. Your friend must have approved texts from Facebook -- your message will go to the phone number supplied when your friend signed up for the service. Your friend can then reply directly from a phone, or sign onto Facebook on the Web and send a response the traditional way.

Instructions

    • 1

Point your browser to the Facebook homepage and click the "Messages" link beneath the thumbnail of your profile picture.

    • 2

Click the "New Message" icon in the top-right corner of the screen.

    • 3

Enter the name of the recipient in the "To" field and the body of the message in the field beneath it.

    • 4

Check the box next to the cellphone icon, located in the bottom-right corner of the new message window -- a small bubble appears that says "Also send as text message."

    • 5

Click the blue "Send" icon at the bottom of the window.
