How to Decorate an Arch

How to Decorate an Arch thumbnail
Vines, flower, tulle and lights are all items to decorate arches for weddings or events.

Arches make decorative focal points to gardens or altars for weddings. The options for decorating arches are seemingly limitless. You can use fresh flowers or foliage, silk flowers or foliage, paper cutout flowers or butterflies, lights, tulle and vines. A combination of lights and flowers, tulle or vines will add extra attention to the arch. Choose to decorate just the top of the arch, the front of the sides and top, or the entire arch.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare garlands for hanging on the arch. If making your own garlands, consider stringing items onto thin floral wire so that they will be flexible but sturdy. If using a combination of floral garlands or vines and lights, wrap the lights around the flowers or vines in a spiral pattern, securing them with floral tape every 6 inches.

    • 2

Wrap a 12-inch piece of floral wire around the ends of the garlands or tulle until secure, leaving 6 inches of wire to wrap around the arch.

    • 3

Start at the top of the arch, working from the center outward along the left side. Wrap the floral wire from the right end of the first garland or piece of tulle around the arch several times until all 6 inches of the wire is wrapped around the arch.

    • 4

Weave the rest of that garland or tulle down the arch from the top down the left side of the arch, working in and out of the arch's poles or beams. Twist the wire at the left end of the garland or piece of tulle around the arch until secure.

    • 5

Repeat the process of adding the garland or tulle to the right side of the arch as for the left side.

    • 6

Continue adding garlands in this manner until the desired fullness is reach. Work from the front of the arch's top to the back of the arch's top.
