How to PvP as a Shadow Priest in "Cataclysm"
"World of Warcraft" comprises two main play styles -- PvP and PvE. The former is Player versus Player while the latter is Player versus Environment. There is a considerable difference between the talent builds, spell rotations and gear between PvP or PvE in "World of Warcraft." This is especially the case in arena matches and the battlegrounds that were introduced with "Cataclysm." With a suitable talent build and a set of PvP gear with plenty of resilience on it, you can learn to PvP effectively, but it will take a lot of practice to reach the higher ranks. Played correctly, a shadow priest can be one of the most powerful PvP characters with its damage over time spells and fear mechanics.

1
Obtain a set of PvP gear. At level 85, there is a craftable set of PvP gear for every class and spec. If you have the tailoring profession, you can make the entire set yourself once you reach the maximum level in the profession (525). Alternatively, you might be able to buy the set at the auction house or have a friend or fellow guild member craft it for you. Two PvP armor sets -- Emberfire and Fireweave -- are suitable for shadow priests, and both contain eight pieces. Both are more or less equal in terms of stats.
-
2
Enchant all of your gear using the best enchants for your class, spec and for PvP. Enchants with intellect, haste rating, resilience rating and stamina are suitable.

3
Apply gems to all of your gem sockets before you start playing. The craftable PvP armor sets do not contain any gem sockets, although you may have available sockets on your relic, weapon, trinkets, rings or necklaces. The most popular gems for PvP shadow priests are those which give additional intellect. Match the gems to the socket colors so that you get the bonus. When you eventually get to replace your helm with one which has an available meta socket, use the Ember Shadowspirit Diamond.

4
Choose and apply appropriate glyphs of PvP shadow priests. For Prime glyphs, choose "Glyph of Power Word: Shield," "Glyph of Shadow Word: Death" and "Glyph of Penance." For major glyphs, choose "Glyph of Mass Dispel," "Glyph of Inner Fire" and "Glyph of Desperation." For minor glyphs, choose anything you want; their impact is small, although "Glyph of Shadowfiend" can help give you an edge.

5
Go to your trainer and either purchase dual talents or unlearn your existing talents. You will need to have a suitable talent build to play PvP effectively. Invest eight points in the Discipline tree in addition to the 33 points in the Shadow tree. Choose all of the talents in the shadow tree except for "Improved Mind Blast" and only put one point in "Harnessed Shadows." In the Discipline tree, use the rest of your points for "Improved Power Word: Shield," "Twin Disciplines," "Evangelism" and "Archangel."
