How to Design Pennants
Pennants are triangular flags that represent professional sports teams. Sports pennants are typically designed with team logos and colors. Create your own pennant representing a favorite professional, school or little league sports team using simple and inexpensive supplies. Display your handmade pennant on a wall to decorate a room or a sports den. Take it to your next sports event and wave it to cheer on the team. Be creative and design an original pennant.

1
Make a small flag with standard 9-inch-by-12-inch construction paper, or make a larger flag with 12-inch-by-18-inch paper. Use team colors.
-
2
Draw the triangular shape of the pennant on the construction paper. Mark a center point on one side of the 9-inch width of the paper using a ruler. Draw a line from the corners on the opposite side to the center point using a ruler. Cut out the triangle using paper scissors.

Transfer images onto the pennant, like team logos, helmets and mascots. To transfer images, place graphite transfer paper face down on the pennant, then place the image over the graphite paper. Trace the image with a pencil. Alternatively, use stencils to trace letters for team names.
-
4
Paint the images using colored markers and acrylic paints. Trace outlines of images with the markers and then paint them in.
-
5
Embellish and add your own creative touch to the pennant. Sprinkle craft glitter over wet paint designs for a sparkly effect or add stickers.
-
6
Attach a dowel to the pennant. Squeeze a line of glue along the back edge of the pennant. Place the dowel onto the line of glue and allow it to dry for 20 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
As an alternative to making a sports pennant, decorate your pennants with your favorite phrases or characters. Make several and place letters to spell out a name. Make pennants with holiday images and attach them to yarn to make a garland.
You could paint the dowel with acrylic paint before attaching it.
