Things You'll Need:
- Motorcycle Owner's Manual
- Traffic Rule Books
- Motorcycle Insurance
- Roadside Emergency Cards With Motorcycle Towing
-
Step 1
Report all accidents involving personal injury or property damage of more than $500 to the department of motor vehicles in your state or province.
-
Step 2
Understand that every accident you are involved in may appear on your driving record, regardless of whose fault it was.
-
Step 3
Check the motor vehicles department in your state or province for additional information on handling and reporting accidents; exact procedures may vary from state to state.
-
Step 4
Get a traffic accident report from the motor vehicles department or highway patrol/state trooper office and recount the accident within a reasonable amount of time. In California, your driving privilege will be suspended if you don't make this report. In many states and provinces, neither the police nor highway patrol will make an accident report for you.
-
Step 5
Understand that your motor vehicles department may eventually use this report to check the insurance protection you had at the time of the accident.
-
Step 6
Make the accident report whether you caused the accident or not, and even if the accident took place on private property.
