How to Draw Anime Children
Anime drawings are a highly stylistic art form that began in Japan and became a popular art form in America starting in the 1970s and 1980s. Anime is characterized by expressive features and warrior and fantasy themes. Drawings of anime children encompass many of the same elements found in drawings of adults. But an artist can distinguish between adult and children anime characters by emphasizing the softer features of anime character drawings.

1
Sketch a circle for the anime child's face. Draw the hair on the character. Anime hair is often characterized by sharp lines that almost look like flames. Begin on one side of the circle and draw these lines around the head. Draw a curve of hair hanging down in the character's face.
-
2
Draw two big circles for eyes on the anime character's face. Draw two arched lines horizontally across each eye for an iris, then draw thick vertical lines above the eye for eyelashes. Thicken the lines to place heavy emphasis on them and to draw attention to the expressiveness of the eyes. Avoid shading around the eyes or cheeks to maintain a smoother, more youthful appearance.

3
Draw a well-rounded nose on the character and keep it small. Begin the bridge of the nose just below the eyes and centered between them. Bring the bridge line down just slightly and curve the line outward to create a small, upturned nose.
-
4
Draw a horizontal line below the nose. Draw a downward curved line that begins at one end of the horizontal line and extends in a wide curve to the other end of the line. This is the mouth. Repeat these lines inside the original lines to thicken the lips, then draw a horizontal line along the inner area of the mouth. Draw small vertical lines to create small, perfectly formed teeth.
-
5
Sketch two vertical lines that curve slightly toward the edges of the paper. Bring these lines toward the edges of the paper for shoulders, then bring each shoulder line toward the bottom of the paper to form the character's arms. Try to keep the body slightly smaller than it should be to allow the head to appear bigger, giving the drawing a more child-like appearance.
-
6
Draw a line extending from the beginning of each arm toward the bottom of the paper to create a torso. Draw a leg extending from the torso to the bottom of the paper. Draw an oval shape at the end of each leg for the feet, then sketch in lines to create the textured look of shoes.
-
7
Sketch clothes onto the anime child. Draw a vertical line across the waist and near the elbow on each of the arms to create a T-shirt. Draw something on the front of the T-shirt a child might wear, such as a bunny head. Draw two bell-shaped lines across the top of the shoes to create bell-bottom jeans.
