How to Import Custom Instruments to Mixcraft

Acoustica's Mixcraft digital audio production software contains hundreds of built-in instrument presets; it also allows you to create custom instruments using the program's synthesizers. Custom Mixcraft instruments are transferable, meaning that an instrument created in one copy of the software can open in another copy of the program. If someone has sent you a custom Mixcraft instrument you want to use in your audio productions, move the instrument file into the correct directory, then import it into Mixcraft.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Windows Explorer. Type "C:\ProgramData" into the top address bar and press "Enter."

    • 2

Double-click the "Acoustica" directory, then double-click "Mixcraft." Double-click the "InstPresets" sub-folder to open it. Double-click the instrument category folder --- "Acoustic Guitar," for example, or "Bass" --- into which you want to place the custom instrument.

    • 3

Click the "Start" button, then click "Computer" to open another session of Windows Explorer. Navigate to the folder containing the custom instrument you want to import into Mixcraft.

    • 4

Drag and drop the custom instrument file into the selected folder in the Mixcraft "InstPresets" directory. Mixcraft custom instrument files have the extension ".instrument."

    • 5

Launch Mixcraft. Click "Build Virtual Instrument Tracks." Click the piano icon in the first instrument track to open the instrument browser.

    • 6

Navigate to the imported custom instrument, which is located in the category corresponding to the folder into which you placed it. Double-click the custom instrument to import it into Mixcraft.

Tips & Warnings

  • To associate an icon with a custom instrument, click on its entry in the Mixcraft instrument browser, then click the "Set Icon" button.

  • If the custom instrument uses a third-party VST synthesizer, you must have the same synthesizer installed on your system.
