Pumpkins are a reminder of the fall season. When you think of pumpkins, you think of Halloween; during this time of year, people put out fall decorations. Halloween decorations commonly include pumpkins in the theme. A cost effective idea for adding pumpkins to your Halloween decor is to make paper pumpkins. Some ideas include cutting out a pumpkin-shaped circle from a sheet of orange paper or folding paper and making an origami pumpkin.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a square orange sheet of paper on a flat surface and fold the paper in half, making a vertical line.

    • 2

Open the paper and fold it in half again to make a horizontal line. You should now have four blocks designated by the creased paper lines.

    • 3

Fold the paper diagonally into a triangle, bringing the bottom left corner up to the top right corner and crease the paper in the middle. Fold the triangle in half and create a smaller triangle.

    • 4

Open the paper and you should see eight small triangles side by side around the square.

    • 5

Collapse the prefolded paper and make a triangle. Lay the triangle flat and fold each corner upwards on both sides. You should have a small box or rhombus (diamond) shape.

    • 6

Fold the four corners of the rhombus inward. The outer corners should meet the center line of the rhombus. Complete the fold on one side and flip the rhombus over to complete the fold on the opposite side.

    • 7

Locate the four little pocket openings along the horizontal folds created in step 6 and use your finger to expand or open the pocket. Fold the lower flap up to the left and again to the right and create a small triangle. Tuck the small triangle into the pocket and push it into the fold. Repeat this fold with all four pockets and you will have a hexagon.

    • 8

Fold the two facing flaps together so the plain side shows. Draw a face on the pumpkin on one of the plain sides.

    • 9

Blow air into the small whole or opening at the top of the pumpkin. The face should expand and you can set your pumpkin on a table or hang it from a string.
