How to Breed a Gold Chocobo
Breeding a gold chocobo in "Final Fantasy VII" for PlayStation 3 and PC requires significant effort, but the results are well worth your time. These giant birds can travel across mountains, streams and oceans to previously inaccessible sections of the world map. With a gold chocobo you can obtain Knights of the Round, the game's most powerful summon.
Once you've gained control of the airship on disc two, you can begin the process of breeding a gold chocobo.

Take the airship to the chocobo ranch on the eastern continent. Head inside and speak with ChocoBilly. Purchase all six stables from him and leave the ranch.

Fly the airship to the mountains north of the Forgotten City on the northern continent. Locate Chocobo Sage's house and head inside. Purchase between 40 and 50 Sylkis Greens, then return to the airship. Land in the area south of Bone Village and start to fight random battles. Steal three Carob Nuts from the Vlakrados enemies here.

Head to the chocobo tracks in the Mideel area. Equip the Chocobo Lure materia on one of your characters, then fight some random battles around the tracks. When you encounter a chocobo that appears with one or more Spiral enemies, use the "Item" command to feed some Sylkis Greens to the chocobo. Defeat the Spirals, then send this "great" chocobo to the stables after the battle. Repeat the process to capture a second "great" chocobo.

Return to the chocobo ranch and speak with ChocoBilly. Tell him to move one of your chocobos inside, and take note of the chocobo's gender during the process. Exit the ranch and save your game. Head back inside and tell ChocoBilly to move your other chocobo inside. If your second chocobo is the same gender as the first, reset the game and try again. You can continue when you have two "great" chocobos of opposite gender.

Feed one of your chocobos eight Sylkis Greens. Fly to Gold Saucer and enter this chocobo in the races. Win four races and return to the chocobo ranch. Breed your chocobos with a Carob Nut to produce either a green or blue chocobo. Take note of the gender, then exit the ranch and fight ten random battles. Save your game, then head back inside. Use a Carob Nut to breed your "great" chocobos again and try to get a new chocobo that is the opposite color and gender of the one you just bred. For example, if you already have a blue male, you'll need a green female. Reset the game if necessary and continue trying until you receive the correct combination.

Feed ten Sylkis Greens to your green chocobo, then head back to Gold Saucer. Win nine races with this chocobo and leave. Fight random battles until your blue and green chocobos are ready, then breed them with another Carob Nut. You will receive a black chocobo.

Head to the area near Icicle Inn and fight random battles until you encounter a chocobo alongside one or two Jumpings enemies. Capture this "wonderful" chocobo and return to the ranch. Save your game, then have ChocoBilly move the new chocobo inside. If the "wonderful" chocobo's gender is the same as your black chocobo, reset the game and try again until you receive the opposite gender.

Feed eight Sylkis Greens to your black chocobo and five to your "wonderful" chocobo. Head to Gold Saucer and win nine races with your black chocobo and three with the "wonderful" chocobo. Leave Gold Saucer and fly the airship to Goblin Island. Steal a Zeio Nut from a Goblin enemy here and return to the ranch.

Save your game, then head inside the ranch. Speak with ChocoBilly to release one of your "great" chocobos and clear an extra spot in the stable. Select your black and "wonderful" chocobos for breeding, using the Zeio Nut for the process. You will receive a gold chocobo.

Tips & Warnings
Speak with the chocobo at Chocobo Sage's house to receive an Enemy Skill materia.
When breeding your black and "wonderful" chocobos, select the black chocobo first. A glitch in the game may prevent you from receiving a gold chocobo if you select the "wonderful" chocobo first.
Use a soft reset if you need to retry a breeding step. Press and hold "L1," "L2," "R1," "R2," "Select" and "Start" to do this.
To obtain the Knights of the Round summon, ride your gold chocobo to the island cave in the northeast corner of the map. Enter the cave to receive the summon.
