How to Write a Brief Essay About Your Holiday Break

Learning to write an essay is a critical part of your educational experience. From your childhood in grade school through college and even in the workforce, you need to write to explain an event, tell someone how to do something or argue for your point of view. An essay needs to have an introduction to introduce your reader to the topic, a body to fulfill the title and a conclusion to sum up the main points of your piece. A typical essay topic, especially in younger grades, is to write about a vacation or holiday break.

Instructions

    • 1

Brainstorm on what event during your holiday break you want to write about. Consider writing about a party or family get-together during your vacation that was especially memorable.

    • 2

List the important highlights you want to tell the readers about. Include important details to allow the reader to get a vivid picture of the event.

    • 3

Write your introduction explaining what your essay is going to describe specifically. Don't include too many details since that is the purpose of the body, but entice your reader to want to read more about your holiday break. Bring them in by explaining why the event matters.

    • 4

Write your body paragraphs detailing important aspects of the event. For example, if you were writing about Christmas day, you may want to do a paragraph for each event during the day such as opening gifts, getting together with extended family, eating dinner or any other traditions that are special to you.

    • 5

Wrap your essay up with an interesting fact or a thought to leave your readers with. You should also reinforce the point you made in your introduction, emphasizing its overall importance.
