Homemade Mouse Deterrent
When seeking to keep mice out of your home there is probably no need to pay for an expensive exterminator. There are several steps you can take to discourage mice from taking up residence or deter the ones already living there to an environment more suitable for them. Mouse traps are rather messy and inhumane. It's often just as easy to deter the mouse from your home than it is to kill it with poison or messy traps. Does this Spark an idea?

Seal all holes openings more than 1/4-inch. Remember that mice have flexible skeletons that can be compressed into extremely small holes.

Place peppermint oil on a cotton ball and place it near a suspected hole.

Place mothballs around the garage to keep mice from taking up residence in winter.

Take care with respect to doors that open directly to a garage, barn or other structure. Be sure the door is weatherproofed and not kept standing open.

Make your food hard to find. Place dry foods in rodent proof containers and make sure that dropped or spilled foods are quickly cleaned up.
