The autostart feature in Windows 98 and later versions of Windows automatically starts programs on CDs that you insert. It also automatically starts playing audio CDs when you insert them. This feature is on by default in Windows 98, but users can disable it. You can turn on the autostart feature for CDs if it is disabled on Windows 98 through the Device Manager.

      Click "Start," point to "Settings" and click "Folder Options."

      Click the "File Types" tab at the top of the Folder Options window.

      Click "AudioCD" in the list and click "Edit."

      Click the "Set Default" button and click "Close" twice.

      Right-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop and click "Properties."

      Click the "Device Manager" tab.

      Click the "+" sign to the left of "CDROM."

      Right-click the name of your CD drive under "CDROM" and click "Properties."

      Click the "Settings" tab in the Properties window.

      Click the "Auto Insert Notification" check box if it's unchecked.

      Click "OK" and click "Close," then click "Yes" if you're asked to restart the computer.
