Determine how frequently you will be using the binder machine. If your business requires binders on a day-to-day basis or more than once in a week, go for machines that offer electronic punching; electronic punching saves time as machines with this feature can punch up to a maximum of 17 or 45 sheets at one go, depending on the model.

Examine your document editing needs. If your work involves frequent updating such as adding or removing sheets, then look for models such as comb binders, which allow easy editing operations. Editing is difficult on thermal models.

Take into account the type of look and finish you would want for your documents. If your primary purpose is to bind huge volumes of corporate reports, a plastic comb or thermal binding model may be ideal. They are fast, simple to use and provide a traditional look and finish for reports. In case your primary purpose revolves around binding promotional materials with a more stylish appearance, a wire binding or plastic coil binding model is ideal. Comb and coil binders as well as wire binders allow you to impart flip chart style appearance for documents.

Determine if you would prefer a flat-style document for your purposes. A flat finish makes it easier to photocopy bound documents or mail them and hence is ideal if photocopying or mailing is frequent. Coil, comb and wire binders allow the flat format whereas velo binders do not offer the feature.
