Almost all lacquered furniture gets scratches or damages. Edges of tables chip, watermarks leave stains, and claw or bite marks from animals are common problems. There are ways to fix your lacquered furniture so they look as good as new and most supplies can be found at your local hardware store that you need for this project. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Steel wool pad 0000
  • Liquid wax
  • Soft rags
  • Sandpaper grit 320-1000
  • Water
  • Fill sticks
  • Wood markers or eyeliner pencil
  • Lacquer
  • Foam brush

Instructions

    • 1

      Gently run the steel wool over the area needing repair. Run with the grain to prevent more scratches.

      Dip a soft rag into the liquid wax and rub in circular motion over the entire area. Buff with a dry, soft cloth when area becomes hazy.

      Use sandpaper for deeper scratches. Start with a 400 grit sandpaper and run with the grain of the wood. Use 600 grit and a light mist of water to shine the area. Use the steel wool to blend the areas together.

      Dip a foam brush or soft rag in the lacquer and recoat the entire area. Allow appropriate dry time before using furniture again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember to run the steel wool and sandpaper with the grain of the wood to prevent further damage.
