How to Import iCal to ICS

While Apple iCal is a useful application to organize your calendar and events on your Apple Mac OS X computer, you may need to export the events if you want to use another platform. The iCalendar format, which is different from iCal, uses the ".ics" extension. If you have an iCalendar organizer, you can export individual events from iCal to be used as ics files. There are various ics applications, but to import from iCal, you have to export in the correct format.

Instructions

    • 1

      Click "iCal" on the Dock.

    • 2

Select a calendar you want to export by clicking on the calendar name.

    • 3

Click "File," then "Export" (this expands then menu) and then "Export" (again).

    • 4

Choose a location, the default "Documents" folder is fine, and a name for the export, such as "exportfile" and click "Export."

    • 5

Import, in your ICS application, the ".ics" export you made in iCal.
