How to Catch Pikachu in "Pokemon HeartGold"
"Pokemon HeartGold" is a remake of the original "Pokemon Gold," featuring updated graphics for the Nintendo DS system. Pikachu is an Electric-type mouse Pokemon that has high speed and attack, and is able to learn strong moves such as Discharge and Thunder. Pikachu is a fairly rare Pokemon that can only be found in the Viridian Forest at levels 4 and 7.

Travel to the Viridian Forest, south of Pewter City.

Walk through the forest into tall grass until you encounter a Pikachu. There is a six-percent chance of encountering a Pikachu during the morning and daytime. At night, there is a five-percent chance.

Engage Pikachu in battle and lower its hit points into the critical red zone. Use any status-changing moves to make Pikachu easier to catch.

Throw a Poke Ball at Pikachu to catch it. If it breaks free, continue throwing Poke Balls until you capture it.

Tips & Warnings
Since Pikachu is at a very low level, your Pokemon may be too strong and defeat it in battle. Try throwing a Quick Ball to capture Pikachu when you first encounter it, or battle it with a lower-level Pokemon.
