How to Draw a Star Step by Step

Save

Drawing is not reserved just for artists, and it's never too late to start learning. A star is a very simple shape that anyone can learn to draw in less than 5 minutes. With the proper method you can easily draw a perfect star every time and fill up pages with these brilliant pointed shapes. With practice, you'll be able to draw a skyline full of stars and maybe even teach your kids what you've learned.

Things You'll Need

  • Paper
  • Pencil

5-Pointed Star

  • Draw an upside-down "V" shape on a piece of paper. Do not lift the pencil when you finish making the line coming back down from the apex of the pointed shape.

  • Keep the pencil at the end of the line you just drew. Draw a straight line at a 45-degree angle slanting up and to the left.

  • Draw a line straight across from left to right.

  • Make a straight line connecting your end point to the starting point. This line will slant down and to the left.

Asterisk Star

  • Draw a straight, vertical line. Cross through the halfway point of the line with a horizontal line of equal length. You should have an image that looks like a plus sign.

  • Draw a diagonal line from the bottom left quadrant of the shape to the top right. Be sure that the line crosses over the center point.

  • Draw a diagonal line from the bottom right quadrant to the top left. Make sure that all of the lines are of equal length so that your asterisk-style star is symmetrical.

Tips & Warnings

  • Draw the star within a circle to help guide your lines so that they are of equal length. After you have finished drawing the star, you can erase the circle.
