How to Make a Star of David in Scrapbooking
The Star of David is a symbol of Judaism that is easily recognizable by members of the Jewish faith as well as people from other faiths. Due to its prominence on the flag of Israel, it is fitting for you to include this symbol on your scrapbook pages about your faith, Hanukkah or Bar Mitzvah. Several quick and easy methods are available to make your own Star of David out of accessible supplies, such as paper, paint, glue and glitter.
Things You'll Need
- Pie pan
- Scissors
- Permanent marker
- Paint
- Paint pen
- Glue
- Hole punch
- Popsicle sticks
- Glitter
- Paper
Instructions
-
Aluminum Star
-
1
Place an aluminum disposable pie pan on your table. Use sturdy scissors to cut off the edge of the pan. You will be left with an aluminum circle.
-
2
Draw the outline of the Star of David with a marker. Cut out the star along the outline. Make sure that none of the marker trim is visible.
-
-
3
Paint the aluminum star. Blue paint is appropriate, but you can change the color to fit the design of your page. Paint the top and sides of the star, but leave the back side of the star bare. Let dry.
-
4
Write a message with a paint pen. Some examples including writing the phrase "Peace," "Shalom," "Faith" or Hanukkah. Let the ink dry.
-
5
Adhere the star to your page with all-purpose acid-free glue. As an alternative, punch a hole through the top of the star and thread ribbon through the hole. Hang the ribbon around another item on your page.
Popsicle Stick Star
-
6
Place three Popsicle sticks on your table. You need colored Popsicle sticks or use acrylic paint to add color to them. Add a small dab of glue to the ends of the Popsicle sticks.
-
7
Lay one Popsicle stick on top of the dab of glue of another Popsicle stick. Add another Popsicle stick to the third Popsicle stick so that the Popsicle sticks make a triangle shape.
-
8
Make another triangle with three more Popsicle sticks. You should now have two distinct Popsicle triangles. Let the glue dry on both triangles.
-
9
Add glue to one triangle. Place the other triangle on top of the first one in the opposite direction. You will now have a Star of David. Hold the star in place for a few seconds to help the Popsicle sticks adhere together.
-
10
Apply a line of glue to the star. Sprinkle with glitter. Continue the process until all of the star is covered. Glue to the scrapbook page. Because the Popsicle sticks are flat, this shape should fit easily in your scrapbook album even if you use page protectors.
Paper Confetti
-
11
Gather together scraps of paper. Blue and white scraps work well together, but any color combination will work.
-
12
Draw an outline of a Star of David freehand. As an alternative, you can print out an image of the star and trace around it.
-
13
Cut the scraps of paper. Cut them in 1/8-inch squares. Mix the colored scraps together to form paper confetti.
-
14
Apply glue around the star shape you drew. Sprinkle the paper confetti on top of the glue. Remove any paper that is out of the shape while the glue is still wet.
-
15
Continue to add paper confetti to fill the shape. Sprinkle paper confetti on beads of glue around the perimeter of the star until you achieve the desired fullness.
