OmniGraffle's stencils can elevate the aesthetics appeals of your charts, diagrams and other graphics. In OmniGraffle, stencils are simply pre-fabricated objects. They come in an assortment of shapes and sizes, and can range from simple shapes and textures to complex logos and emblems. But if you can't find the right stencil for your project, you have two options for importing more stencils into OmniGraffle. As of June 2011, OmniGraffle is only available for Macintosh Operating Systems and the Apple mobile operating system.

Installing Stencils to OmniGraffle's Folder

  • Download your stencils from OmniGraffle's home site, or from a trusted third-party site (see Resources). Close OmniGraffle if the program is open.

  • Open Omnigraffle's "Stencils" folder. On your desktop, click on the hard drive that contains your installation of Omnigraffle. Open the "Libraries" folder and then open the "Application Support" folder inside of it. Open the "OmniGraffle" folder and then open the "Stencils" folder.

  • Drag and drop your new stencils into the "Stencils" folder. Your new stencils will be available the next time you launch OmniGraffle.

Importing Stencils through OmniGraffle

  • Launch OmniGraffle. Click on the "Action" button, denoted by the sprocket icon, in OmniGraffle's "Stencils" window to access the "Action" menu. Click on the menu's "Graffletopia" option.

  • Type keywords into the "Stencils" window's search box to browse for new stencils. You can search for things like symbols, maps and pop culture stencils. Your search results will appear under the "Stencils" window. Click on a stencil to preview it.

  • Click on the "Download" option next to the desired stencil to import it into your stencil library.
