The text that a WordPress website displays in the Web browser tab has two components: the title and the tagline. You select the title when you first install WordPress on your server. But WordPress displays a default tagline such as "Just another WordPress site" until you change it. Change either of these items in your WordPress General Settings menu to change what visitors see in their browser tabs when they visit your website.

Step 1

Browse to the login page for your WordPress website, usually "www.example.com/wp-admin." Enter your username and password to display the dashboard for your website.

Step 2

Click the "Settings" link in the lower left corner of the page. The top of the page now displays "General Settings."

Step 3

Modify the "Site Title" field to change the name of your WordPress website. Using the default WordPress settings, visitors see the title on every page of your website.

Step 4

Modify the "Tagline" field to change the slogan that WordPress displays after the site title. Visitors see the tagline only when they view the main page of the website.

Step 5

Click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page.
