MSN email, or Hotmail, as it is also known, is a free email service. Anyone can sign up for an account and the complete signup process only requires a few minutes of your time. When signing up for an MSN email address, choose an ID that is easy to remember and non-offensive to others, which is especially important when using your new MSN email account for business communication. You can access your MSN email account using a private password.

Go to Hotmail.com, which is the official website for MSN email. (See Resources for a link.)

Click “Sign up,” which is located in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

Create an ID for your email account. Check the availability of the ID by clicking “Check Availability.” If the ID is available, proceed to Step 4 to finish setting up your MSN email address. If the ID is not approved, continue to check potential ones for availability.

Enter a password containing 7 to 16 characters. Re-type the password.

Enter an alternative email address; it does not have to be an MSN email address.

Enter your first and last name.

Enter your country, state, city and ZIP code.

Check the circle labeled “Male” or “Female” to select your gender.

Enter your birth year.

Enter the characters you see in the security box, which is located just beneath the answer box you used to enter your birth year.

Agree to the terms and conditions. Click “Accept.”

Wait to receive a confirmation email, which will be sent to the alternative email address you entered in Step 5. Click on the link as directed.

Sign in to your MSN email account.
