Chi (or Ki) refers to the flow of energy that is believed by some to connect everything in the universe together. The ancient Japanese art of ninjitsu teaches students the art of espionage, misdirection, disguise and concealment as part of the training required to become a ninja. Ninjitsu also teaches its students to tap into the healing and restorative powers of chi through training and meditation. For a student of ninjitsu to determine his chi, he must train himself in the art of meditation and open his mind to the energies that surround him.

      Clear your mind of any thoughts, concerns or worries as you begin the meditation process. Learning how to manipulate the chi in your life requires a unification between the mind and the body. Positive thinking and confidence in yourself will allow you to begin harmonizing your mind and body faster than if your mind remains focused on negative thoughts and actions.

      Stretch out your body so that you feel loose and comfortable. Position yourself in a manner that will allow you to remain comfortable through out the entire meditation process. If you do not feel comfortable while meditating, you will be more prone to distraction.

      Close your eyes and visualize your body physically connecting to the Earth's soil, while taking slow, deep, deliberate breaths. A ninja draws strength from the Earth's chi, and by visualizing yourself becoming one with the Earth, you can condition your mind to reach out towards this energy. Ninjitsu teaches that any situation can be overcome through a combined use of meditation and force when connected to the chi that surrounds you.

      Focus on controlling your breathing while shutting out all outside influences. Ninjitsu teaches meditation as a way to shut out everything but the task at hand through the use of extreme calm and enhanced concentration. Only when extremely focused will your awareness increase to the point that you become aware of the chi that surrounds you.

      Eat, sleep and exercise with regularity. The ancient Chinese believed that the body could restore lost chi through eating, sleeping and exercise. An unhealthy body can cause a blockage of chi in a body leading to sickness, disease and a weak physical constitution.

Tips & Warnings

  • It can take years to master the art of mediation. Don't become discouraged if you have trouble staying focused when first learning how to meditate. The more you practice, the better you will become at maintaining your focus.
