In coastal regions and tropical areas, coconut oil has been used as both a medicine and beauty product for decades. The oil can be used to clear up blemished skin, strengthen the immune system and supplement a diet lacking in amino acids. Lauric acid, capric acid and vitamin E, all essential to healthy scalp and hair, make coconut oil especially useful in increasing hair follicle growth. Include coconut oil in your weekly routine to strengthen your roots and reverse hair thinning.

Things You'll Need

  • Towel
  • Coconut oil

Wet your hair and scalp thoroughly. Pat dry with a towel.

Pour a small pool of coconut oil into the palm of your hand. Avoid using too much oil initially, as you can always use more later.

Apply the oil to the roots of your hair and massage into the scalp with your fingers. Allow the oil to penetrate for at least two hours.

Rinse the oil from your hair and scalp under a shower head. Dry the hair as you normally do.

Repeat the above steps once a week until desired results are achieved. Continue using the oil for prolonged benefits.

Tips & Warnings

  • At the beginning of the day, apply coconut oil to the ends of dry hair to boost sheen and reduce split ends. Avoid applying it to the scalp when your hair is dry.
  • Coconut oil can be purchased at natural beauty suppliers, hair-care retailers and most pharmacies.
