How to Make Sequin Trim
Turn a pile of sequins into a glittery trim for a dress, costume or other apparel or use the sparkling embellishments to enhance a dance costume. Adding a sequin trim to any piece of clothing is not difficult. You can choose between sewing the individual sequins to the clothing or using a ready-made sequin trim. The advantage of sewing the sequins individually is the ability to customize the trim with as many or as few sequins as you would like.

Individual Sequin Trim
-
1
Lay the clothing item on your clean working surface with the right side facing outward.
-
2
Arrange the sequins on the clothing in the order you would like them. Make a pattern from different colored sequins or use the same colored sequin over the entire trim.
-
-
3
Pick up the sequins, one at a time, and apply a drop of fabric glue to the back of each sequin. Return the sequin to its place on the clothing and press gently. Continue until all of the sequins are glued to the clothing.
-
4
Insert a piece of thread that is the same color as the sequins through the eye of a sewing needle.
-
5
Sew a single stitch through each sequin to keep them secure on the clothing. Cut and knot the thread after each sequin if you have just a few or leave the thread attached until you have completed the trim line if you have used a substantial amount of sequins.

6
Measure the circumference of the neckline, cuff or hemline of the clothing.
-
7
Cut a piece of sequin trim to this length, plus about half an inch.
-
8
Pin the sequin trim to the right side of the fabric. Overlap the ends of the sequin trim by about a quarter-inch.
-
9
Insert the thread through the eye of a sewing needle. Use a thread that coordinates with the sequin color.
-
10
Sew the trim to the clothing. Sew most of the stitches over top of the joining material in between the sequins. Sew over a few of the sequins to add a little bit of extra strength to the trim.
