Step-by-Step for an Origami Tank

Origami is the ancient craft of creating objects and forms by folding paper in specific geometric shapes. Making an origami tank is a simple project that doesn't require advanced knowledge. You can make paper tanks with kids and in less than half an hour. Soon, they'll have a whole brigade of tanks to add to their games. Not only that, but they'll find the process of making an origami tank fun and educational -- and it won't cost you anything more than a few sheets of paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold an 8 ½-by-11 inch piece of paper in half length-wise.

    • 2

Fold one of the top corners diagonally down to the other side, and crease and unfold it. Fold the opposite corner down, and crease and unfold it. You will have two diagonal, intersecting creases on one end of the paper.

    • 3

Pinch in the sides of the creased ends and squash down the top. You will have a triangle shape at the top of the paper.

    • 4

Repeat steps 2 and 3 at the other end of the paper so you have a triangle at each end.

    • 5

Fold the two sides of the paper to the center crease tucking the ends under the triangle flaps. Fold the sides back on themselves to form the wheels.

    • 6

Fold the two ends of one of the triangles up towards the center point, leaving a small gap between the flaps.

    • 7

Turn the whole piece of paper over. Bring the folded triangle up and fold it back.

    • 8

Bring the opposite triangle up and towards the flaps on the smaller triangle. Lift the flaps from the first triangle up and place them under the flaps of the second triangle.

    • 9

Tuck the top flaps of the triangle underneath so you have a square.

    • 10

Turn the square over and pull out the wheels from step 5 each side. Place the tank on its wheels.

    • 11

Roll up a piece of scrap paper to about the length of your index finger. Insert one end of the paper between the two triangle flaps and point the other end straight forward for the tank's gun.
